Although easy enough to escape by taking the back streets or visiting quiet old pubs, there were hoards of tourists in Brugge so Ghent just an hour down the river was a relaxing spot to spend a night. We arrived just in time for a walking tour (which involved a drinking game!) of the castle and riverside then set about sampling some more beers.
Two Flightless Birds 
Oh I just LOVE Ghent! I spent a summer in Belgium at KU Leuven (CHECK IT OUT, especially the Leuven town square) for a study abroad program, and Ghent was one of our favorite Belgian towns. I highly suggest looking up to see if they have any music festivals coming up, as Ghent is notorious for them. Cheers!
